HELLO...
I'm Nate Dybvig, a veteran public affairs strategist and the co-founder of the groundbreaking PR firm Minnesota Media Services Inc.
I've recently refocused and relaunched it as Spinfirm.
Here's why...
The Spinfirm Manifesto
The PR Industry Is Broken.
I came up in this business working alongside the legendary DJ Leary. For twenty years we did it by the book: the decks, the retainers, the near constant update check-ins. Then the pandemic hit, offices emptied, and we all got some much needed time for introspection. And when it was over, I did not like what I saw.
...So I created something better
I took our shop apart bolt by bolt and threw out everything that didn't add value. So much of what firms were offering at that time was bloated excess. After stripping it all down and examining each and every piece for utility, what remained was a communications firm ready to dominate the firms who wasted the pandemic slowdown learning how to make sourdough bread. My bread baking is not great, but Spinfirm is well tuned to compete with the classic firms and their outdated service models.
Retainers Are Dead.
A retainer is a gym membership for your reputation. You pay every month and nobody checks whether you got any stronger or even if you showed up. I don't sell those anymore. In our new model, we agree on the goal, the deadline, and a project fee before anyone touches a keyboard. Then we get to work. And when the job's done, I'm gone. No invoice ambush. No mysterious "phase two" concocted in month eleven. You will never pay me to sit through a weekly status meeting, because I don't. I show up for the moments that matter: the night before the big push, or the morning after the story breaks, when you need someone who's been in the fire before.
We only have one product.
Spinfirm sells exactly one thing: a battle-tested strategist on speed dial. Call when your team is stuck and has circled the same tired idea for three weeks. I'll bring a fresh perspective that isn't attached to any of the baggage that is weighing progress down. Or when you need a chunk of writing done, be it an op-ed, a position paper or a new hero page for your website where you don't trust the intern to write in your voice. Or maybe you have a staffer out on vacation or medical leave. I can step in for as long as you need me to make sure that nothing misses a beat.
Agility beats ego.
For more than 25 years I've worked Minnesota's most explosive public affairs fights, for Fortune 500 giants, trade groups, labor unions, and community leaders. I once got a stalled bill moving by setting a living room on fire in front of nearly every news outlet in town. It worked. Meanwhile, the old guard is still routing a press release through legal, compliance, and the vice president's assistant. By the time they sign off, the news cycle has had grandkids.
