Case Study:
The Day The Phone Didn't Ring

Friday afternoon. An East Coast attorney calls on a referral. His client, a multinational food company, just settled a big federal employment lawsuit. The government posts it Monday at 9 a.m., and the company is sure the other side will tip off reporters.
Less than three days to get ready.
Their comms team could move product all day. A federal settlement is a different sport. So we spent the weekend building the plan: a memo on which reporters would bite, a reactive statement, talking points, and prepped spokespeople.
Then I grilled those spokespeople, starting with the easy questions and ending with the ugly ones, so nobody lost their cool on camera.
Monday, 9 a.m. The settlement went live.
Nobody called.
"I have nothing to show for it," the client said. "But I had been stressing about this for weeks, so this was money well spent."
The best crisis plan is the one you never use.
